Why is our Anger and Stress Management Program Important?
Many people would welcome learning more about Anger and Stress management, but feel embarrassed to acknowledge their issues in public, or do not want to be involved in Anger Management groups because they may include individuals who are court mandated. Many Anger Management programs focus on violent interactions and ignore more indirect or subtle, yet damaging forms of anger outbursts, such as swearing, screaming, throwing things, sarcasm and teasing. Most of us have never been taught to recognize stress and anger in our bodies, in our thoughts, in our feelings, and in our behavior. So we are left without basic tools that help us have better relationships and a sense of mastery over our own impulses.
Children who have anger outbursts, and can be victims of violence, often lack the skills necessary to deal with their own stress and anger. By the time they are teenagers, their inability to understand their own emotions and to feel empathy for others, as well as their lack of communication skills, put them at risk for feeling isolated, inadequate, and hopeless.
